June 2012 Halcyon now available

The lastest issue of the Halcyon, the newsletter of the Friends of the Fisher Library, is now available online. The issue, No. 49 (June 2012), features an article on an exciting new addition to the library: a copy of the 1555 edition of Andreas Vesalius’s De humani corporis fabrica, printed and published by Johannes Oporinus of Basel. Not only did the library not have a copy of this second edition, making it a noteworthy addition to the Fisher's extensive history of medicine collections, but what's especially significant about this copy is that it was annotated by Vesalius himself. See below for images from this unique and exciting book.

Also in the June 2012 issue of the Halcyon are articles on a new Byzantine manuscript that complements the Fisher's Codex Torontonensis, Philip Miller and the Gardeners Dictionary (which complements the current exhibit, "How Does My Garden Grow," as well as an article on a new Haggadah calligraphed and illuminated by the Polish-Jewish artist Arthur Szyk (1894–1951)in the 1930s.
